Jakarta, 22 November 2024 – Leading digital infrastructure in the country, PT Indointernet Tbk (Indonet) and its subsidiary, PT Ekagrata Data Gemilang (EDGE DC), continuously show their commitment towards the environment through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by planting Mangroves at one of the most stunning biodiversity in town with the warmth of residents.

As the climate changed drastically this decade, marine ecosystems and biodiversity started to erode and vanish with the increasing temperature. Therefore, mangroves serve as a barrier and protection against floods, as well as home to a vast array of sea creatures, both animals and corals. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), over 1,500 plant and animal species depend on mangroves. This proves that planting mangroves is a great action to prevent further natural destruction caused by climate change.

Iqbal, Manager of Sales at Indonet, stated that  “World Tree Day is a meaningful opportunity to remind us of the vital role trees play in preserving the Earth, supporting ecosystems, and sustaining human life. By planting 3,000 mangrove trees on Tidung Island, we are not just celebrating the day but also reinforcing our commitment to creating a long-term positive impact on coastal environments”

In addition, a visit was made to a sea creatures conservation site, where species endangered by climate change, habitat loss, and overfishing are being protected. Two endangered sea creatures, seahorses and brown-marbled groupers, were released after receiving careful care. This experience highlighted the urgent need for collaborative efforts in marine conservation and served as a reminder of the shared responsibility to protect the oceans and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.

This green initiative’s purpose is to benefit the residents and biodiversity in Pulau Tidung.
