Topping Off Ceremony marks EDGE DC Construction Milestone for its Upcoming Energy Efficient Data Center – EDGE2
EDGE2 is expected to be the largest operational data center in downtown Jakarta
Jakarta, Aug 1, 2023 – EDGE DC (“PT. Ekagrata Data Gemilang”), a subsidiary of leading digital infrastructure provider Indonet (“PT Indointernet Tbk”), has announced the topping off of EDGE2 – its second data center located in Kuningan, South Jakarta – which is expected to be the largest data center in downtown Jakarta when completed later this year. With its environmentally friendly design and highly secured facility, EDGE2 is on track to obtain LEED Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), making it one of the most sustainable and energy efficient data centers in Indonesia.
EDGE DC’s expansion is driven by growing demand for highly reliable and interconnected data center capacity in downtown Jakarta, the growing technology hub of Southeast Asia’s largest economy. EDGE2 will offer 23 MW of IT load or almost four times the capacity of the company’s existing EDGE1 facility, with colocation space to accommodate more than 3,400 cabinets over 15 floors of purpose-built data center.
EDGE2 will provide much needed scalability for both existing and new customers, as proven by EDGE1’s success which fully contracted 100% of its capacity less than 2 years after launch. Toto Sugiri, Founder and VP Commissioner of Indonet, added, “Our facility has become a preferable option for the financial services industry, major enterprises and various content providers as their trusted data center and growth partner in Indonesia. We expect to see greater requirements for low latency applications which require IT workloads situated closer to the end users, further fueling demand.”
With low latency and ease of connectivity in mind, EDGE2 will be supported by Indonet’s diverse fiber routes into other major data centers in the Greater Jakarta Area. There will be a total of 4 diverse fiber entry points into EDGE2 providing options for network carriers to interconnect in the facility and deliver greater network redundancy. Located less than 3 km from EDGE1, EDGE2 will also become a part of the virtual EDGE DC campus, enabling customers to take advantage of the network density of more than 35 network carriers and Internet Exchanges already present in EDGE1, including Indonesia Internet Exchange (IIX) and Edge Peering Internet Exchange (EPIX).
EDGE DC has committed to ensuring the new facility will meet the highest industry standards when it comes to reliability and security, to maximize uptime and provide business continuity to customers. EDGE DC has recently been certified with ISO 27001, an internationally recognized management system in relation to information security and data privacy. According to BMKG, EDGE 2 is also located at an earthquake and flooding-safe zone and the building structure is designed to withstand earthquakes up to 8.5 RS according to SNI standard.
Stephanus Oscar, CEO of EDGE DC, concluded, “To unlock Indonesia’s digital competitiveness we need a reliable digital infrastructure with a highly connected ecosystem. EDGE DC has been proven to deliver zero downtime since its commissioning. Once ready for service, EDGE2 will offer Dual Power Source PLN Platinum with an industry leading uptime guarantee, ensuring business continuity for our customers. We are confident EDGE2 will be ideally suited for any customer seeking to build a reliable, secure, and low-latency infrastructure in the heart of downtown Jakarta.”
The development of EDGE2 is EDGE DC’s response to the growing demand of cloud providers and local and international customers looking to scale their business and digital presence in Indonesia. As a low-latency data center in downtown Jakarta and the first facility designed with energy efficiency and sustainability in mind, EDGE2 bolsters EDGE DC’s broader ambition to minimize its carbon footprint and achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
