Jakarta, 22 October 2021 – PT Ekagrata Data Gemilang (EDGE DC), a subsidiary of PT Indointernet Tbk (Indonet), has officially launched its first Edge Data Center, EDGE1, in downtown Jakarta. Strategically located near major internet hubs, EDGE1 ensures low latency connectivity and faster data transfer. The facility boasts a 6.0 MW IT Load capacity, 5 floors of data halls, and can accommodate up to 1,300 racks. With a dual power configuration (2N) for redundancy, EDGE1 is designed for reliability and scalability. EDGE DC fully owns and operates the site, marking a significant milestone in Indonesia’s digital infrastructure.
“EDGE1 is our stepping stone in pioneering the Edge Data Center ecosystem in Indonesia, aiming to support the next generation of digital businesses. We are committed to building world-class facilities in downtown Jakarta, with plans to expand to over 40 MW of IT load capacity,” said Stephanus Oscar, CEO of EDGE DC.
According to Philbert Shih from Structure Research, Jakarta’s colocation market is projected to reach USD647 million by 2026, growing at a CAGR of 21.2% between 2021 and 2026. This growth is driven by Indonesia’s booming digital economy, increasing cloud adoption, and the rise of start-ups, creating a strong demand for colocation and Edge Data Centers like EDGE1.
Indonet’s CEO, Karla Winata, emphasized, “As businesses increasingly adopt digital solutions, providing critical IT infrastructure is a natural progression for us. EDGE DC combines scalable, world-class infrastructure with a strategic location near Jakarta’s major network hubs. Coupled with Indonet’s network solutions, customers at EDGE DC can achieve high-speed interconnectivity essential for business growth.”
To ensure top-tier service and reliability, EDGE DC has partnered with PT DCI Indonesia Tbk (DCI). This collaboration leverages DCI’s infrastructure design, operational standards, and a 99.999% SLA, ensuring minimal downtime. DCI Indonesia’s CEO, Toto Sugiri, highlighted the strategic advantage of EDGE1 and DCI’s locations, offering customers primary and disaster recovery center options or separate availability zones for cloud providers.
EDGE DC’s facilities are cloud and carrier-neutral, providing flexibility for customers’ network and connectivity needs. Additionally, EDGE DC benefits from Indonet’s network solutions, including HyperScale conneX (HSX), enabling seamless connectivity between data centers, multi-cloud environments, and internet exchanges.
Over 55% of EDGE1’s 6 MW IT Load capacity has already been contracted, reflecting strong customer demand. EDGE DC plans to expand its capacity to over 40 MW in downtown Jakarta, with a second site already acquired. Stephanus Oscar expressed gratitude for DCI Indonesia’s partnership and welcomed Digital Edge as a majority shareholder, citing their regional expertise as a key driver for future growth.
“We are committed to supporting Indonesia’s digital economy through EDGE DC and Indonet’s solutions. With its strong ecosystem, EDGE DC is poised to become the preferred service provider for global players, including hyperscalers, looking to expand into Indonesia,” said Samuel Lee, CEO of Digital Edge.
